academic translation

It works! I just signed a contract to translate a social science monograph from English into German – when I asked if anyone had recommended me as a translator, I learned that I was found simply by googling “translation social science”. Actually, I usually translate social science texts from German into English, but in this case the topic is right up my alley — migration, diversity — so I feel no qualms about taking on a scholarly translation from English into German. My experience with academic translation started with in my own academic field: Literary Studies, Russian Studies, Translation Studies… Then, mainly through the fields of Jewish and queer studies, I proceeded to translate texts in cultural studies and sociology. Then came requests for the translation of scholarly or scientific articles and also for interpreting at seminars in neighboring fields, such as anthropology and ethnology. In the meantime, political science, art studies and psychology have also become my areas of translation. Who knows what’s next! Just not technology and law if I can help it – Pavel is better at this kind of thing.
