Interpreting at video conferences

Experience has shown that online interpreting works best as video interpreting, especially if simultaneous interpreting is involved. Without video, on interpreting is much more difficult, especially if a negotiation with many participants is involved, or in a technical meeting (just consider German technical terms – seeing the speaker helps decipher them quickly). The good news is: any video chat is okay (Skype, Zoom, Teams, Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, etc.); there are also special programs for interpreting online such as Voiceboxer, KUDO, Interprefy, Ablio and Ibridge. NB: Video translation is not the same as video interpreting or online interpreting, even if the terms are often confused – it involves transcribing a video or audio file and then translating it as text.
